New Kevin Devine album this winter

The singer/song writer from Brooklyn New York has plans to release a new album "Brothers Blood" this upcoming winter, slating a Februaryish release on Favorite Gentlemen records. The album is all done and has about 15 recorded tracks with 12 making the final cut on the album. Since early '08 fans have been treated to a new demo just about every week. So far I have not seen a tentative track listing, although "Tomorrow's Just Too Late" (Probable Jesse Lacey guest vocals) and "Murphy's Song" (Jaymay guest vocals) as well as the title track "Brothers Blood" are confirmed tracks. The demos seem to be hit or miss. Stand outs include "Carnival" (See Live Video - It's Excellent) "Hand of God" "She Stayed as Steam" "I Could Be With Anyone" and "Another Bag of Bones" as they have hard hitting lyrics and catchy melodies. I give the thumbs down to "Fever Moon" "Your Husband" "What's Keeping us Young" and "All of Everything Erased" as they are drearily slow paced and subsist of more palm muted power chords and basic chords with hammer ons and pull offs - nothing new to Kevin Devine. Despite those flaws - they are still fairly solid tracks. If you liked "Make the Clocks Move" "Circle Takes the Square" "Split The Country, Split the Street" and "Put Your Ghost to Rest" there really isn't a doubt that you wont enjoy the demos or the upcoming album. Same old Kevin Devine. Highly recommended for fans of Brand New, Pedro The Lion, David Bazan, Elliot Smith, Folk, Acoustic, and Anti-War.
